How I use Coconut Oil as my Hangover Cure- A guide to detox, beautify, and refresh with coconut oil

Have you ever woken up feeling like you got hit by a train? If yes, then read on.
Well actually, if you're just looking to detox, moisturize and refresh yourself, you can also read on.

Story is I went out last night and activities involved were lots of drinking and dancing. Doesn't help with Derby, Fourth, and Cinco de Mayo being on the same weekend does it?  While I had blast, the aftermaths are not so great. This, we all have gone through. A bad hangover is not foreign to any one of us; I can be sure of that.
Besides from the headache and million other things, did you also know that in-taking alcohol  in general dries out your skin and hair and leaves toxins in your body till days after? Well yeah, it does, and today's post will be your guide of how to cure a bad hangover, along with detoxify and (re-)moisturizing that precious bods of yours for the morning after.

Ingredients needed:

  • Jar of extra Virgin Coconut Oil (I use this one, you can find at any Wholefoods, organic store, Amazon.com or really anywhere if you Google it)
  • Jasmine Oil (optional- or your scent oil of choice). You just need to do a little research to make sure the scent oil you chose can be applied onto skin. Jasmine oil is safe for the most sensitive skins and is also known to reduce redness and inflammation. Not to mention the heavenly smell.
  • Lush Big Shampoo (can buy here)
  • Lush Ocean Salt body scrub (can buy here)
  • Small face towel
  • Trash Can

 Prep- 2 minutes:

  • Mix 3 table spoon of coconut oil with 6-7 drops of jasmine oil. I have a small jar of this mixed for a whole week's use so you can do that too.

Before Bath- 5 minutes

  1.  Start filling your tub with hot water, add sea salt or bubbler of choice. I highly recommend this Lush bath bomb.
  2. Hair Mask: Use the Coconut-Jasmine mixture to put on your hair as a mask. Tie your hair up and wrap it up.
  3. Face Cleansing: Use the coconut-jasmine mixture and slather it on your face. Be careful around your eye areas, it won't be fun if some get into your eyes. Leave it there and wait for further instructions.
  4.  Take the face towel with you into the tub
  5. Start oil pulling.
    • What is oil pulling? Oil pulling is basically swishing vegetable oil in your mouth for 3-20 minutes. You can use any vegetable oil, like sesame or sunflower. I use coconut oil since I already a large jar of it and it doesn't taste bad at all. The important thing is to remember to pull just the coconut oil, not the coconut-jasmine mixture.
    • Why oil pulling? Oil pulling is known to detox your body. The oil swished in your mouth will draw out toxins in your body and cleanse your mouth and teeth. Oil pulling is known to heal headaches (imperative for hangovers) and improve oral health if done daily. Pulling coconut oil is also a natural way to whitens teeth. :) Read more about oil pulling here and here.

During Bath- 30 minutes:

  1. 5 minutes into your hot bath, take your face towel, rinse it with hot water, put it onto your face, leave for 10 secs and wipe the coconut oil of your face. This will feel heavenly. Your dry face after a night of drinking will thank you for the moisture from the coconut oil. Now you are done with cleansing you face. No need for additional cleanser.
  2. You will be swishing the oil during the bath. It is recommended to pull for the whole 20 minutes, however, if you are new and or the oil/saliva build up to too much you can spit it out whenever. Prepare a trashc an near by the tub to spit the oil out. DO NOT spit it out into a sink or toilet. It WILL build up and clog your pipes!!
  3. After 20 minutes of enjoying the bath, start rubbing your bods with Lush's Ocean Salt body scrub. This is a mixture of sea salt, coconut oil, citrus and some other things too long to list. This will exfoliate and wake you skin up all the while moisture and leaving your skin soft and new.
  4. Wash your hair with Lush's BIG shampoo to rinse out the coconut oil mask. BIG is a clarifying shampoo with sea salt, coconut oil and citrus (again). These 3 combined will exfoliate dead skin cells on yo head, moisture your strands and leave everything shiny and soft. Score again with coconut-oil-related-products.

After Bath- 5 minutes

  1. Brush your teeth. You will need to brush your teeth after each oil pulling sesh. After this is done, you will see and feel that your teeth and mouth are very clean, bright and white. Headaches will leave gradually.
  2. Use the coconut-jasmine mixture as a body moisturizer. You literally will walk around smelling awesome. No fragrance needed.
And voila! Trust me you will feel so much better after all this, and the cost is minimal for those of you who will need to do this every weekend. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions at all about all this or have any other great tips on using coconut oilas a beauty product.

Thank you for reading & don't party too hard!
